Apply a Vehicle Compatibility Note to eBay Listings in Bulk

Add the same fitment note to every vehicle on many eBay Motors listings at once, without replacing each listing's compatibility list.

Written by Karolina Santiago

3Dsellers can write the same vehicle compatibility note onto many eBay Motors listings at once, without touching each listing's fitment list. In Listings Manager, select the listings, open Bulk Actions > Set/Update Compatibility, choose Keep each listing's vehicles, set the note only, type the note, and click Update. Every listing keeps its own vehicles; only the note on each vehicle is rewritten.

In this article:

Which of the two bulk compatibility actions should I use?

The Bulk Update Compatibility window in 3Dsellers asks you to pick an action first. The two options do very different things.

Action

What it changes

Use it when

Replace the vehicle list from a preset

Every selected listing gets the preset's vehicle list, replacing whatever fitment it had

The same part fits the same group of vehicles on all the selected listings

Keep each listing's vehicles, set the note only

Vehicle lists are left exactly as they are; the note on every vehicle is replaced with your text

Each listing has its own fitment list and you want one shared note, for example a fitment warning or an installation remark

How do I set a compatibility note on many eBay listings at once?

  1. Go to Listings & Products and open your eBay account in Listings Manager.

  2. Tick the listings you want to update. The window confirms the count, for example The chosen action will be applied to 8 selected items.

  3. Open Bulk Actions and choose Set/Update Compatibility.

  4. Under Select action, choose Keep each listing's vehicles, set the note only.

  5. Type your text in Vehicle note. This is the note that will be written on every vehicle of every selected listing.

  6. Click Update. The bulk action runs in the background and reports a result per listing.

⚠️ The note replaces whatever note is already on each vehicle, on every selected listing. There is no undo, so run it on a couple of listings first if you are not sure.

What happens to my listings after the bulk compatibility note runs?

  • Active listings are revised on eBay with the same vehicle list they already had and the new note on each vehicle.

  • Drafts, library and scheduled listings are updated in 3Dsellers only, with no eBay call, and carry the note when they are listed.

  • Listings that already carry this exact note on every vehicle are skipped, so re-running the action over a large selection does not send needless revisions to eBay.

  • The vehicle rows themselves are never changed, added or removed by this action.

Which listings are reported as errors?

The note-only action reports an error for a listing instead of guessing, in these cases:

  • The listing has no vehicle compatibility list. There is nothing to write a note on. Add the fitment first, manually, from a preset, or by CSV.

  • The fitment comes from an eBay catalog product (an ePID). The vehicles live on eBay's catalog product rather than on your listing, so 3Dsellers leaves the listing alone rather than swapping the catalog fitment for an inline list.

  • The listing is not an eBay listing. Vehicle compatibility is an eBay Motors feature.

Setting the same note inside one listing

For a single listing, you do not need the bulk action. Open the listing, go to Item Specs > Vehicles Compatibility, and use Set Note in the table header to fill one note down the rows. If you have ticked rows, the note goes on those; otherwise it goes on the rows currently shown by your search or filter. Applying an empty note clears the existing notes on those rows.

Troubleshooting

Some of my listings finished with an error

Open the bulk action result and read the message on each failed listing. The three usual reasons are listed in Which listings are reported as errors: no compatibility list on the listing, fitment supplied by an eBay catalog product, or a non-eBay listing. The listings that failed were not changed.

The note did not change on eBay

Check whether the vehicles already carried that exact note, in which case the listing is deliberately skipped. Otherwise, allow a few minutes for the eBay revision to go through and then reload the listing. If the note is still missing, contact support with the listing's item ID.

FAQ

Does the note-only mode replace my vehicle list?

No. The note-only mode in Bulk Update Compatibility keeps each listing's own vehicles and only rewrites the note on them. The other option, Replace the vehicle list from a preset, is the one that replaces the fitment.

Can I clear the notes on many listings at once?

No. The bulk action will not run without a note or a preset. To clear notes, open each listing's Vehicles Compatibility window and apply an empty note with Set Note.

Can I set a compatibility note in bulk from the Products Catalog?

Not yet. The note-only mode is available on the Listings Manager bulk action for eBay listings. The Catalog bulk compatibility action still applies a preset's vehicle list.

Do I need a compatibility preset to use the note?

No. A preset is only needed for Replace the vehicle list from a preset. The note-only mode needs nothing but the text you type in Vehicle note.
