In this Article:
Rules VS Rule Groups
Auto Messages' Rules are kind of like simple math equations, where groups are in parentheses:
(2 - 1) + 1
However, Auto Messages is not calculating numerical values rather, it is calculating if the order matches your rule conditions.
Parentheses were added for visual representation
The above example says:
send for listings with "for parts" in the Title or if the SKU contains "broken,"
but only if the item's category is 'motorcycle parts'
Like the parentheses in an equation, a group creates a section of your overall rule where all the conditions inside are considered as a whole, then applied to the rest of your rule combination from left to right.
In simpler terms, a group will make the Rule check the order for all conditions in the group. Then, the message will send if the order matches the group.
For example, if a group is:
Item ID → equals → 123456789
SKU → equals → GH_45
The message would send for item
123456789 or SKU
GH_45, but not both.
If you were to change the OR operator to "AND," it the message would only send if the Item ID and the SKU match.
Pro Tip: Including two of the same filter value may break the Rule group. For example, using two Item IDs in a group will break it because one listing cannot have 2 Item IDs.
