Error: CSV export looks weird - Cell data bleeds into other cells

If it looks like your CSV export is corrupt, it may be due to a character limit in your spreadsheet application (Excel)

After exporting your listings with Listings or Report Center, your CSV may look like this:

If the CSV looks corrupt (HTML code bleeding into other cells), it is most likely due to a character limit in your spreadsheet app.

For example, Microsoft Excel will only allow 32,767 characters in a single cell. Instead of removing the extra data, Excel will push it into other cells.

Why does this happen?

If you have a design template installed on your listings, it will be exported in the description cell. The code required for a design template can often exceed the character limit of your spreadsheet application.

How do I fix this?

  • Option 1: Use a different spreadsheet app
Sadly, you won't be able to change the application that's causing this. However, you can use other applications that do not have a character limit (such as Google Sheets).

  • Option 2: Do not export descriptions
When using the Report Center, you can create a custom template and exclude descriptions from your export.
