On channels that let a product sit in more than one category, the 3Dsellers Categories Mapper lets you map one catalog category to several channel categories. Since November 2026 this works for WooCommerce as well as BigCommerce: each pick becomes a tag with an x, an Add Category picker adds more, and every mapped category is sent when the product is published. The Change Category bulk action can add categories to many rows at once while keeping the ones already mapped. Shopify stays a single category per product (its collections were already multi-select), and eBay and Amazon stay single, because those marketplaces allow one category.
In this article:
Which channels allow several categories?
Channel | Categories per catalog category |
WooCommerce | Several. Every mapped category is published. |
BigCommerce | Several. Every mapped category is published. |
Shopify | One product category (Shopify's taxonomy). Collections can be several, as before. |
eBay, Amazon, Etsy, Walmart | One. The picker replaces the category instead of adding. |
How do I add a second category to one row?
Open Products > Categories Mapper and choose the WooCommerce or BigCommerce account at the top.
In the row of your catalog category, pick a channel category. It appears as a tag, and the picker changes to Add Category.
Click Add Category and pick the next one. It is added as a second tag; the first one stays. Picking a category that is already mapped adds nothing.
To remove one category, click the x on its tag. To clear the whole row for that account, use the account's trash icon.
Copying a mapping to other accounts copies the whole set of tags. Long category names wrap onto extra lines so the x stays inside the cell.
How do I add categories to many rows at once?
In the Categories Mapper, tick the catalog categories you want to change and open Bulk Actions > Change Category.
In the dialog, pick the channel (WooCommerce or BigCommerce) and the account. The label reads Select the categories: and each pick becomes a closable tag.
Leave Keep the categories already mapped and add these to them ticked (it is on by default) to add the new categories next to the existing ones. Untick it to replace the existing mapping with your picks.
Save. On a single-category channel such as eBay the same dialog shows a singular label and no checkbox, and the pick replaces the category.
What is sent to the store?
When a product in that catalog category is published or revised on WooCommerce or BigCommerce, 3Dsellers sends every mapped category, each one once, with its parent categories resolved so the product shows under all of them. Attribute mappings that are scoped to a category are matched against every mapped category, not only the first.
⚠️ If a WooCommerce row had two categories mapped from before this change, only the first used to be published. From now on both are, so check rows with more than one tag before your next bulk revise.
Troubleshooting
I only see one category per row and the picker replaces it
The account at the top of the page is a single-category channel (eBay, Amazon, Shopify product category). Switch the page to the WooCommerce or BigCommerce account; only those show tags and the Add Category picker.
The product shows in only one category on my store
Revise the product from the Product Catalog so the current mapping is sent again. If the store still shows one category, open the row in the Categories Mapper and check that the second category is a tag on that account, not on another account of the same channel.
Bulk Change Category does not open
Hard-refresh the app (Cmd+Shift+R or Ctrl+Shift+R) so the browser loads the current version. If the dialog still does not open with WooCommerce or Shopify chosen at the top of the page, switch the page to eBay, open Change Category and pick WooCommerce inside the dialog.
FAQ
Can I map one catalog category to several eBay categories?
No. eBay accepts one category per listing, so the eBay picker replaces the category. Multi-select is for WooCommerce and BigCommerce, which accept a product in several categories.
Does the AI Auto Map pick several categories?
AI Auto Map proposes one channel category per row. Add the others yourself with Add Category or the bulk Change Category action.
Does Shopify support this?
Shopify's product category is single by design, so no. Shopify collections, mapped in the store collection columns, can be several and already were.
