📦 What Are Product Variations?
Product variations represent different options of the same base product. Instead of creating separate products for each option, you group them under a single parent product.
Common examples:
📏 Size (XS, S, M, L)
🎨 Color (Black, Blue, Red)
💾 Storage Capacity (64GB, 128GB, 256GB)
🧵 Material, Length, Style, etc.
Each unique combination of variation values becomes its own child SKU inside the product.
Example:
Size | Color | Resulting Variation |
XS | Blue | XS / Blue SKU |
S | Blue | S / Blue SKU |
M | Black | M / Black SKU |
🏗 Variation Structure Inside the Catalog
Variations are structured in two levels:
1️⃣ Parent Product
The main product that groups all variation combinations.
Example:
Fog Linen Chambray Towel – Beige Stripe
The parent product defines:
Title
Media
Description
General attributes
Shared properties
2️⃣ Child Variations (Individual SKUs)
Each variation combination is treated as a separate SKU inside the product.
In the Variations tab, you can:
Add variation types (Size, Color, etc.)
Generate combinations
Generate variation SKUs
Edit each variation row individually
Filter by variation type
Search by SKU
Each variation has its own:
Price
Inventory
SKU
Media (if supported)
Channel-specific settings
📍 Where to Manage Variations
To manage product variations:
Go to Products Catalog
Open the desired product
Click Variations in the left navigation panel
➕ Adding and Editing Variations
➕ Adding Variations
Open the product
Navigate to Variations
Click Add Product Variations
Select variation types (Size, Color, etc.)
Add values
Generate combinations
The system automatically creates all possible combinations.
✏ Editing Variations
You can:
Edit variation types
Add or remove values
Delete specific combinations
Modify price per variation
Update inventory per variation
Assign or edit SKUs
If you modify variation structure (for example, add a new Size), new combinations will be generated automatically.
🏷 Managing Each Variation as a Product
Each variation row functions as an independent SKU.
You can:
Assign a unique SKU
Set different pricing
Manage stock individually
Duplicate variations
Remove specific variations
Track performance per SKU
Even though they belong to a parent product, variations behave like separate sellable units operationally.
🌐 Mapping Variations to Channels
Each sales channel (eBay, Amazon, Walmart, etc.) has specific variation requirements.
To configure variation mapping:
Go to Mapping Templates
Open the relevant channel template
Navigate to Variation Settings which is located under each channel category
You will see:
🏷 3Dsellers Variation Type (left side)
🔁 Channel Variation Type Mapping (right side)
🔄 How Variation Mapping Works
Step 1 – Define variations in the Catalog
Example:
Size
Color
Step 2 – Map them inside the Channel Template
Example for eBay:
Map "Color" → eBay Color
Map "Size" → eBay Size
Step 3 – Publish
The system converts each child SKU into a channel-supported variation listing.
If required variation types are not mapped, the listing may fail.
✅ Best Practices
✔ Use consistent naming (always use "Color" instead of mixing with "Colour")
✔ Ensure every variation has a unique SKU
✔ Always set inventory per variation
✔ Map all required variation fields in templates
✔ Test variation listings before bulk publishing
🛠 Troubleshooting
❗ Missing Item Specific Errors
Check:
Are all required variation types mapped?
Are all combinations generated?
Do all variations have SKUs?
Is inventory set for each variation?
Are required channel attributes completed?
⚠ Duplicate SKU Errors
Ensure each variation has a unique SKU
Avoid reusing SKUs across products
🚫 Variation Not Appearing on Channel
Confirm variation mapping is completed
Verify the channel category supports variations
Review template configuration
📌 Summary
Product variations in the Catalog consist of:
🏷 One Parent Product
📦 Multiple Child SKUs (variation combinations)
Each variation:
Has its own SKU
Has its own price
Has its own inventory
Can be managed independently
Must be mapped per channel template
Proper setup in both the Catalog and Mapping Templates ensures successful multi-channel publishing.
