How to connect VS Code (GitHub Copilot) to 3Dsellers

Add the 3Dsellers MCP server to VS Code with one block in .vscode/mcp.json and your token, and let GitHub Copilot manage your eBay and Amazon listings.

Written by Karolina Santiago

To connect VS Code to 3Dsellers, generate an MCP token in 3Dsellers under Settings > Profile > API / MCP, add one server block with that token to .vscode/mcp.json (or run the command MCP: Add Server), and open GitHub Copilot in agent mode. The server URL is https://api.3dsellers.com/mcp. It takes about five minutes. Copilot then gets the same 150+ 3Dsellers tools Claude and ChatGPT use: search and update your catalog, publish listings to eBay, Amazon, Walmart, Etsy and Shopify, fix item specifics in bulk, run CSV imports and check orders.

What you need

  • A 3Dsellers account (the free trial works).

  • VS Code with the GitHub Copilot extension and agent mode. VS Code connects to MCP servers through Copilot's MCP support.

  • A 3Dsellers MCP token (step 1). Editors read a config file, so unlike Claude or ChatGPT they connect with a token rather than a sign-in.

Step 1: Get your 3Dsellers MCP token

VS Code connects with a token, so the first step is in 3Dsellers:

  1. Log in to 3Dsellers and open Settings > Profile > API / MCP, or go straight to app.3dsellers.com/api-mcp. The page opens on the Tokens tab.

  2. Click Connect MCP.

  3. Scroll to For developers, generate a token and copy it right away.

The Tokens tab of the 3Dsellers API/MCP page with the Add to Claude, Get API token and Connect MCP buttons

⚠️ The token is shown only once. Anyone who has it can read and change your 3Dsellers data, so do not commit it to code or paste it in a shared channel. If it leaks, revoke it on the same page under Issued tokens and generate a new one.

Step 2: Add the server to VS Code

Create or open .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace and add this block, replacing YOUR_TOKEN_HERE with the token from step 1. Note that VS Code uses the key servers, not mcpServers:

{
  "servers": {
    "3dsellers": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.3dsellers.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN_HERE"
      }
    }
  }
}

Or open the Command Palette and run MCP: Add Server, then enter the same URL and Authorization header.

Step 3: Open Copilot in agent mode and ask

  1. Save the file. If VS Code does not pick the server up, restart it.

  2. Open the Copilot chat and switch to agent mode. 3Dsellers appears in the list of tools.

  3. Ask: "What 3Dsellers tools do you have access to?" Copilot reads the tool list and explains it.

Tools that change data ask for your approval before they run. Reading your data needs no approval.

What can I ask Copilot once it is connected?

Start by asking Copilot what it can do: "What 3Dsellers tools do you have access to?" It reads the tool list and explains each one in plain language. Then try requests like these:

  • "What sold today across all my channels?"

  • "Which of my listings have errors, and what do the errors say?"

  • "Find every eBay listing missing the Brand item specific and fill it in from the product title. Show me the list first."

  • "Dry-run a CSV import of ./products.csv into my Product Catalog and tell me which rows would fail."

  • "Which products have fewer than 5 units left?"

Tip: add "show me first, don't change anything yet" to a request. Copilot then describes what it plans to change in 3Dsellers and waits for your approval before it runs the tool.

Frequently asked questions

Does connecting Copilot to 3Dsellers cost extra?

No - the MCP connection is included in every 3Dsellers plan, including the free trial. Reading your data (orders, listings, inventory, reports) is free. Actions that Copilot runs in your account, such as publishing a listing or updating prices, use AI actions, which you buy in advance in the AI Lite, AI Pro or AI Elite package.

Is it safe to give Copilot access to my 3Dsellers account?

Yes - Copilot never sees your eBay, Amazon or other marketplace passwords. It connects to 3Dsellers with a token you control, can only use the tools the 3Dsellers MCP server exposes, and asks for your approval before it runs any tool that changes data. You can disconnect it at any time: in 3Dsellers open Settings > Profile > API / MCP (app.3dsellers.com/api-mcp), find the Copilot entry in Issued tokens and click Revoke. Copilot loses access on its next request.

Does Copilot work with all my channels?

Yes - one connection covers every channel connected to your 3Dsellers account: eBay, Amazon, Walmart, Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, TikTok Shop and any other channel you have added. If you have more than one seller account, ask Copilot to "list my sellers" and include the seller ID in a request to scope it to one account.

Does the same config work in Windsurf, Codex CLI or Gemini CLI?

Yes - any editor or agent that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP can connect with the same url and Authorization header in its own config file. Only the file location and the top-level key differ; check that tool's MCP documentation.

Copilot does not show the 3Dsellers tools. What do I check?

Check that the file is .vscode/mcp.json inside the workspace you have open, that the top-level key is servers, that the URL is exactly https://api.3dsellers.com/mcp, that the header reads Bearer followed by one space and the whole token, and that Copilot chat is in agent mode. Calls with a missing or wrong token are not logged, so if the Requests tab on the 3Dsellers API/MCP page stays empty, the token is the first thing to check.
